Organiser's Comments

On behalf of Helen Hague and family, who excelled in the on-the-day organisation despite about twice as many participants turning up as had been expected, we would like to offer thanks to all who took part, and good naturedly accepted the shortage of maps on some courses (Light Green in particular) caused by the unexpected turnout. We know several of you would have preferred to have run Light Green and were not able to, due to lack of maps at the Start, and we would like to thank those who handed in their maps to allow them to be re-used.

Controller's Comments

The stringent restrictions on access to open areas due to ground nesting birds combined with high levels of bracken obscuring some line features posed some difficulties in planning, especially for the Orange course, which included more variation in difficulty than would be ideal. Fastest times on this course were relatively long as a result.

We hope those on more technical courses will forgive some legs being technically simple on the one hand (necessary to route past the OOB areas) whilst at least one control proved troublesome for many by being buried in bracken. In this case hanging the kite higher would have enabled it to have been seen from so far away that no technical challenge would have remained.

To make the most of the available area we opted for lots of controls and relatively short legs on the longer courses. From the generally positive comments received this seemed to work well. We look forward to using the full extent of Mildenhall South at a future event, which we shall schedule to avoid the nesting restrictions.
