Organiser's Comments These results have now been corrected to give one minute bonus for each additional extra control visted on the long course (over and above the minimum of three). Results indicated as mp (mispunched) are where not all the 20 "main" controls were visited.

Planner's Comments Thanks to everyone who came along to the event at Audley End. Apologies for not getting the controls out quite quickly enough, though I hope the extra time chatting with your orienteering friends was not the worst way to spend a hot sunny afternoon. The unusual format of the long course (an ordinary course of 20 controls, plus a requirement to visit at least three of six extra controls that needed to be inserted into your course somewhere of your choice) was adapted from one of the ways that my local clubs in New Zealand used to add interest to informal evening events in well-known technically-simple urban parks. However judging by the number of MP results, I did manage to find enough technical difficulty at Audley End, though disqualifying people was certainly not my plan! I was surprised at the number of people who got optional control D, the distinct tree in the middle of a sea of nettles. This was a bit of a joke control, there to ensure that people who went for it were showing true commitment. Similarly, my original plan for B (under bridge) was to put it directly under the bridge and make you wade for it, but in the end I didn't have the heart for that. Many thanks to my team of helpers who performed admirably without a great deal of advance instruction from their planner. I hope they and all the competitors had an enjoyable day out in the brilliant sunshine. I certainly did. John Marshall, course planner.
