Harlton Clunch Pits -

Thankyou to all who were able to come to enjoy a helping of the brown spaghetti which seems to be such a rare dish on East Anglian menus. With fifteen out on a warm evening, many of whom made it to the adjacent Fox & Hounds afterwards, efforts to update a map which seemed to have been rather left behind by a rapidly eroding area seemed worthwhile. The 1:1000 scale and hectic pace caught some out to start with, as did the 2.5m contours which perhaps made the hills look less steep than they were in reality - 0.5m contours might have been more in proportion. John's storming finish was enough to pip our resident adventure racer, with Madeleine coming home the fastest lady. Hazel visited the 15 controls identified as the short course - plus one more for luck. Thanks also to Harlton Parish Council for permission to use the Pit. Peter Duthie June 2010
